The lighting design for this 9,000SQF health center located in the basement of a downtown Manhattan building, focuses in task areas, as well as complementing the interior design by strategically highlighting vertical and ceiling surfaces, to create an inviting space where users can feel comfortable in the absence of daylight. An example is the nurse’s station, where a skylight-like fixture illuminates the area below and LED strip lighting glows giving the illusion of openness
The rhythm of downlights at entryways and linear wall grazers along solid walls establishes a natural flow through the long corridor creating the illusion of light permeating through windows. The nurse’s station defined by a glowing ceiling highlights it and serves as a marker for patients
